Fwd: Get the new software update for your iPhone.

Its so funny that

1.  I am getting this email update on OS 3.0 release long after the actual release date

2. It's meant for some Aron in CA but landed up In my inbox. Infact I hv been getting this 'valuable customer' emails and AT&T bills meant for the other Aron since the time he got his iPhone.

It's comes from a do not reply address and emails to Apple and AT&T customer care havnt helped.
So I made a filter to get these out of my gmail inbox.

Thankfully nobody is sending his creditcard bills to me

iPhone 3G S got hidden HD capabilities

hero-1-20090608.jpg

Within minutes of  launch, solutions experts Rapid Repair teared down the Apple's iPhone 3GS to reveal the components inside revealing a Samsung chip based on on ARM's Cortex A8 reference design running at 600MHz.

Samsung's website states that this S5PC100 chip can run at 833Mhz and features a built-in, 720p multi format codec (MFC) video Engine which ensures smooth 30fps video encoding and playback at low power consumption, and supports three types of TV out interface (NTSC/PAL/HDMI)

Check Apple Insider's analysis of this chipset. However, Apple chose not to exploit the full potential of this chip, one reason would be battery life and it could be also a strategic calculation to unlock this capability in future when competitors introduce similar devices like HTC touch HD.

Developments in battery life and power consumption will hold the key to mobile HD and will revolutionize the way we consume HD content. Oh and I have already started dreaming about connecting my iPhone to any LCD screen and watch my favorite youtube videos in HD. Or how about downloading HD movies form iTunes store on the go or play NFS on my car

redsnow - where to download redsnow

Follow the video to download the official release of redsnow by dev team through torrent

How to use redsnow to unlock your iphone gen 1 os3

OS 3.0 jailbreak for windows released

redsnOw released today

At last, Dev-team has released their windows based jailbreak application for OS 3.0 running on iPhone gen 1 and 3G. Dev team had released the Pwnage tool for Mac yesterday.

For Windows, Dev-team has released a do all application called redsnOw instead for Quickpwn as expected earlier. RedSnow can jailbreak the Original iPhone and iPhone 3G while it can also unlock the original iPhone.

iPhone 3G users requiring an unlock (currently using yellowsnow for accessing network) must not use redsnOw until the unlock software for iPhone 3G named yellowsnow is released. yellowsnow is expected to be available on cydia soon. redsnOw doesnt work on iPhone 3GS

Now we can go ahead and have that much talked about OS 3.0 update without being worried of being locked out of our favorite network and probably show friends as to whats real copy paste.

You can download the official bittorrent release using this link: redsnOw torrent file
Make sure you read the entire instructions and warnings cited by Dev-team before you jump in.

iPhone day in USA

Its literally iPhone day for USA as Apple's iPhone 3gS goes on sale today.

Sadly I need to wait longer as iPhone 3GS will come to Indian only in August 2009. Thanks to dev-team, the wait wouldnt be frustrating as they are releasing the jailbreak app for OS 3.0 shortly. Dev-team has already released its pwnage tool for Mac users this morning. The quickpwn tool for Windows users is expected to be released anytime from now.

Pwnage tool for Mac can jailbreak and unlock gen 1 iPhone(orginal iPhone) while it cant do the same to iPhone gen2 (iphone 3g) and the iPhone 3gS which was launched today. This would be possible once Ultrasnow (unlocker for 3G and 3GS) is released through cydia which is expected to happen tommorow or the day after.

dev-team deserves a very big salute for the efforts put in to keep Apple iPhone free of restrictions and they dont even accept any donation nor do they have advertisements on their sites for revenue. That impressive.

Check the Engadget's review of iPhone 3gS and a comparison of the crowd outside Apple stores today and during the first launch in 2007

N 97 - iPhone killer?

N 97 - iPhone killer?

I have been following N97 news since Nokia announced it in 2008 and really hope N97 puts up a tough challenge for Apple's iPhone 3GS. After all, everyone needs competition to excel.

Hope this much hyped iPhone killer doesn't fizzle out like the Sony Ericsson Experia X 1. I loved the n97 promo videos and had almost pre ordered it. Well, WWDC made me change the plan and do the waiting game.

Techtree has come up with a detailed review on N97. The feature list is impressive and the hardware is tempting too. Nokia N 97 is going to be priced at around Rs. 36000, same as the current 16GB iPhone 3G. To be the iPhone killer, N97 needs to beat iPhone on the touch interface, connectivity and apps library, the built in iPod and now even speed, considering iPhone 3GS will be around by august.

The review clearly says n97 is not so great on the touch interface. I liked the overall look and feel of the device including the widgets based home screen, but I think, way too much space has been wasted, they could have managed a bit more compact form factor and a richer feel.

I don't think N 97 will cut into iPhone market globally, rather after a repositioning at 25k levels; it will eat into the n96 market! Moreover, iPhone 3G will be available with a reduced price tag, post 3GS launch

But Nokia needn't worry about that in India as iPhone won’t eat much into the Sub 25k market as long as it remains dependent on PC for media transfer, especially iTunes.

Check out the Nokia n97 review at techtree.com. Sad part is, even though the review went into 14 pages, covering all of N 97 features, the verdict was rather lukewarm.

The New HTC Touch Diamond 2

I have always liked HTC 's stlying, based on various hues of grey. The first of Touch series was impressive, well till iPhone came by. Hope this one works for HTC though its still WinMo. When will this come on Android, I am sure that would work better for HTC.

Competition seems to be heating up for Apple with some cool launches starting with Palm Pre, N97 from Nokia, HTC with Diamond and Samsung too. The plus point these phones have is that, they aren't  dependent on itunes or similar software for managing media or rather independent of PC. That makes sense for many consumers, especially in Asia, where PC penetration falls way behind Mobile phones.

Apple still won round 1 and 2 with its iPhone and iPhone 3G models. We will see who wins Round 3 soon

iPhone 3gS - its here

Finally the next installment in iPhone series is here. Rather than revolution, its evolutionary. Its so good to see that Apple invested its time and energy in improving the performance and response speed of iPhone, rather than going in for a cheeky cosmetic makeover.

It looks the same, but runs twice as fast as current iPhone 3G and has some new additions like video recording and magnetometer which are possible due to new additions to hardware. This is in addition to the increas in processing speed and RAM available for the device.

iPhone 3G will now sell at 99$, half its current rate of 199$, thats gona kill competition and do wonders for Apple. Other mobile manufacturers have a bigger problem now. Earlier they only lost the premium phone segment to Apple, now they are bound to loose the mid segment too.

OS 3.0 being available for all versions of iphone hardware will certainly make its existing consumers happy. Not many manufaturers do that.  That ensures iPhone 3G will sell, and so will the gen 1 phone in used phone markets off Asia and middle east.

E3 2009 - GOW 3

Its going to be a 9 month wait till march 2010. Official confirmation on the release date for 3rd installment of God of war came during last week's e3 event.

GOW III was demo'ed during the event and was awesome. Being designed for PS 3 platform, developers had the flexibility to invest in more detail and a more upfront game play using PS 3's processing capabilities to the optimum. GOW 3 is made on an awesome scale and has a very dynamic environment. The number of opponents on screen at a time has increased many folds, when compared to GOW 2. To face that challenge, Kratos can now take control of those huge apes ( i think they are called cyclops) and use them to smash all those heavily armored guards. Kratos gets some new weapons in addition to his chaotic blades and an awesome rocket boot.

It indeed delivers on the huge expectations that fans have on this game series and Kratos is as brutal as ever.

Kratos's attitude has been the main stay of God of War series and its just got even better with HD game play giving the Sony the scope to bring in more detailed facial expressions and combat in closeup. No other game character has been able to outdo Kratos, even though they were more brutal, powerful or whatever.

GOW would be probably the only game series with such an awesome and gripping storyline and  a game play combination of puzzles + combat + tactics combination. Not to mention the mini games and boss battles. I think its the variety in opponents that Kratos has to face, that makes God of War so good.

And for the next 9 months, the wait isn't that bad, PS3 has got a good lineup of releases scheduled across the next 12 months, starting with infamous.
