Reliance Retail to span Asia, Africa- The Economic Times
Reliance Retail has decided to simultaneously foray into international markets. Identified countries include Sri Lanka, Nepal, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Maldives, Kenya, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ghana and Tanzania.
The company will enter into specific retailing activities which include a range of products from cheap and quality consumer durable to fruit, vegetables and garments. Sourcing would be done from both India and China. When contacted by ET, an RIL spokesperson declined to comment.
According to industry sources, retail operations would be drafted specifically for each country. Priority will be given to sourcing cheap fruit, vegetables, garments and consumer electronics from China to these countries. The various legalities of the operation is being worked upon.
The company’s larger plan consists of three types of operations: supply of agricultural products to countries in shortage, supply of consumer goods, garments & other household goods to agriculturally rich nations and opening organised retail outlets in smaller countries
